Taking a decidedly postcolonial and feminist perspective, the project looks at the relation between gender and mobility during the peak of European colonialism. It focuses on the

role of female explorers, often neglected / ignored by the historyof science, and on the various, inherent subject-positions: the explorer, the female explorer, and the

subject of research / study.
